If you like retro arcade shooters buy it, it's cheap and fun.But be warned, the game is unfair, not difficult, UNFAIR! There are 4 types of enemies:- Green - the default shoot'em up kind- Red - sticks to your horizon and you have to dodge- Blue - Destroy your horizon- Swarm - insta kill you if they reach your horizonThe problem is, once a red or blue enemy reaches the horizon (50% of the enemy types) you have 3 ways to clear your mistake1- die...2 - clear the wave (reach next stage)3 - use a bombOK I can use a bomb! But you have to fill a bar to get 1 and if you die you lost your bomb or the current progress... So your only way to counter those enemies isn't reliable. The game got nearly impossible on wave 25/26, and when you finally reach wave 27 you'll probably have 1 life without upgrades or a bomb under your sleeve. If there was a way to shoot to the sides or a more spread weapon this problem would not exist.Oh, and jumping the spikes during a whole level with the "mirror " upgrade is extremely boring, sometimes I just suicide one of the ships.... After just 5 minutes, I already love this very fresh feeling shmup. Cool graphics, great tunes & sound effects, precise controls and a surprising degree of depth in gameplay and scoring. The game actually rewards you for taking risks, so you can either play it safe or live dangerously and rack up high scores.Very, very solid!. Edit: This is a labor-of-love for the developer, and it shows. They are very active and interested in community input - this cannot be valued highly enough. With that being said, unfortunately I don't see the magic that everyone else sees with Horizon Shift. I have tried several times to get into it, and all I can see is a subpar arcade shooter. While the axis-flipping mechanic is not new, the game does bring some interesting platforming mechanics into play complete with enemies being able to destroy the line creating jumpable gaps. On the negative side, the visuals are nothing special. I played with a keyboard and also a controller, and both felt decidedly awkward for what is a simple game although I only tried one of several configurations for the controller.Pros:+Its cheap+It can run on a toasterCons:-While there are some interesting platforming elements that are new, it wasn't enough to keep me interested.-Artwork is bland.-Music is generic.Perhaps I did not get far enough to see something great, but I doubt it. I was hoping for something completely addictive (like many reviews boast - even friends of mine), but that was not the case for me.. Super addictive, original game design, tons of different game modes, overall a great little game. Very polished and hard to put down, $5 very well spent! I'll be looking out for future releases from Flump Studios, can't wait to see what they come up with next.. If this was in the arcade, it would be eating your quarters.
